Archeological portrait of a vanished town State Museum of Fine Arts named after A.S. Pushkin invites you to visit the exhibition "Pantikapey. Archeological portrait of a vanished town". The exhibition is devoted to the 55-th Anniversary of Archeological Research of the Bospor Expedition of the State Museum of Fine Arts named after A.S. Pushkin at the mountain of Mitridat. The Bospor Expedition, initiated by Professor of the Pushkin Museum V.D. Blavatsky in 1945, was created in cooperation with the Museum of Material Culture and started systematic excavations of Pantikapey, the capital of Bospor Kingdom. Many people of the Museum staff took part in the expedition. Vast-scale excavations have helped the Museum to form a large, varied and unique collection of memorials of Ancient Greek and Bospor art and culture, which for a millennium had been the environment of the ancient town. About 200 exhibits are samples of imported Ionic and Attic decorated ceramics, terracotta, details of order buildings, pieces of monumental plastic and interior decorations, varied epigraphic material. All those are presented at the exhibition. Pushkin in Moscow an exhibition of the Central Museum of Army and Navy has been opened. It is devoted to the 300 anniversary of St-Petersburg and called "I love You, Peter's Masterpiece!". Among the exhibits there is Peter the Great's "Admiral's arm-chair" and other things which had belonged to him, also flags, banners, standards from navy churches, sea armament, mortgage boards of ships of the Russian Navy, navigation tools and devices, subjects of sailors' everyday life, documents and books, engravings and photos. Of special value is one of the rarest and most expensive models in the world. It is the model of a 100-cannon linear ship "Royal Sovereign", which had been presented to Peter the Great in the beginning of the 18-th century by the British Queen Ann. Moscovites will also see the real "Admiral's boat" from the spire of the main Admiralty building in St-Petersburg. This relic was granted to the Museum in the first half of the 19-th century, after one of the spire's restorations. Shusev invites everyone to see a new exhibition "NEW-NOVOSIBIRSK". "NEW-NOVOSIBIRSK" is a project of a new capital of Eurasia, a monumental propaganda plan (Andrey Molodkin, Alexey Gintovt, Gleb Kosorukov; music by Dmitry M. Shostakovich). Modern geopolitical concepts, the dream of an ideal city and the idea of New Russian Renaissance have inspired the group of artists to create a colossal project of New-Novosibirsk. In February 2001 this group of visioners presented their works in the Russian Museum as a powerful art action, and now the town-planning aspect of their project appeared. Unprecedented many-meters canvases by Andrey Molodkin and Alexey Gintovt drawn by ten thousand ball-point pens depict the style of lighthouses of the future city environments. Gleb Kosorukov has created a photo-portrait of the inhabitants of New-Novosibirsk, young and wonderful people of the new millennium. All these are accompanied by the march of subjugators of the North called "Our victory", which appears before us as the great spirit of the young Parisian composer's, Dmitry Shostakovich, great grandfather. One can get a more detailed description and scientific comments to the project and also see the life-building program in action on the 10-th of May, 6 p.m. in the Suit of Rooms of the Museum of Architecture's main building. The exhibition is open until July 11, 2001. The State Reseach Museum of Architecture named after A.B.Schusev Addres: Moscow, 5, Vozdvizshenka str. This selection, dated back to the beginning of the XVIII century from the Hermitage collection, includes 45 engravings and 5 water-colours and gouash paintings by various artists, created in various years, from the middle of the XVII up to the beginning of the XVIII centuries, and of various formats, but they all are unified by the same plot - Ludowik XIV's (who ruled since 1643 till 1715) victories and defeats. The plots of the 50 works of art clearly show that their unknown complier's starting point has been their idea contents. The selection had been possibly purchased for the tsar's collection. Ludowik XIV had stated that the conquest of new territories was the most pleasant and worthy occupation for any sovereign, and he had been proving that throughout his whole life. The common plot of all the pictures is connected with the struggle for re-partition of frontiers between France and its Northern neighbor, Netherlands. The authors of the canvases belong to different art schools of European engraving of the XVII century - the French, the German, the Dutch, the Fleming, the German, but they are very much alike from the point of view of style. All the engravings are made in the technique of etching and chisel, with the exception of the Portrait of Duke Marlborough by D. Smith. It presents creative work of four lady-artists of the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory, they are: Tatiana Afanasieva, Elvira Ieropkina, Nelly Petrova and Galina Shuliak. In creative work of Tatiana Afanasieva, virtuoso of painting and master of forms, landscape and still life became her favorite genres since her first years in the factory. As for Elvira Ieropkina, her themes are varied: balley and circus, everyday life and biblical scenes. Based upon her design, Lomonosov Porcelain Factory has made tens of painted samples of dinner services and plastics. Nelly Petrova is Senior artist of Lomonosov Porcelain Factory, a painter and a sculptor. For 25 years tens of her drawings have taken root in the factory production and at the same time they formed the unique style of her drawings and images. Her works are easily recognized by her constant attachment to the theme of vanishing Russia. In works of Galina Shuliak, porcelain painter and sculptor, there is much diversity, too. Some of her works attract one's attention by their spontaneity, others by high temper of painting, bold conclusions, complicated and noble palette. The exhibition is a prologue for the future cooperation of State Hermitage and Lomonosov Porcelain Factory. The works of art exhibited here, come from both the collection of State Hermitage and Lomonosov Porcelain Factory. The exhibition will be open until September 2, 2001.
